MiyungsangHospital (Korean Hospital in Addis Ababa), which was founded in Nov, 2004, said it going to build a medical college and memorial church in its compound.

The overall construction cost of the two projects is expected to take five years and will have in five phases, according to the hospitals' officials who lay the foundation this afternoon (March 23, 2010) along with Ethiopian government officials.

After its first phase will be completed within one year with an investment capital of some 15 million USD, the college will have the capacity to train around 180 medical students.

"This will scale up quality of health services of the country and reduce the number of Ethiopians who travel abroad seeking better medical services," said Reverend Sam Hwan Kim, the founder of the hospital, which began neuron surgery in Ethiopia for the first time.

The church, which is planned to be built in the same compound, is to remember the Ethiopian solders, which helped South Korea to win the 1950 war.

It was in June 25, 1950 that the North Korea invaded the South. Ethiopia was among the several countries who contributed troops to the United Nations to rescue the South.

By the time the South Korean Army had 65,000 soldiers present for duty, and was deficient in armor and artillery and was unable to stop the 260,000 troops of North Korea.

"We built this memorial church in the hospital compound to say thank you for the Ethiopian people and soldiers who helped when we were weak during the war," Reverend Sam Hwan Kim said.

According to some historians, South Korea has lost over one million people during this war, which was ended in1953.
